I hope to get out to Mubazzarah in Al Ain (UAE) later with the folks. I think I shall be picking up a cricket bat from the shops on the way! Sorry to all South African friends!! It looks like England are on the verge of a memorable victory and not least with the aid of the referral system!
It's especially surprising when the England squad are on record as disagreeing with referrals! But, I think it is a good aid. I hope to see some records of umpires' performances - number of times referred, number of decisions upheld. That would make for interesting reading!
It seems that it should also encourage more result matches, which can only be a good thing. Often, the complaint I hear about test match cricket is that they play for five days and the result is a draw! In the past, I have always been familiar with the "benefit of the doubt to the batsmen" guideline "if in doubt give it - Not Out!" But now, it seems that the doubting or uncertain not out decisions in favour of the batsmen are being overturned and there are some quick wickets tumbling.
